We are being bombarded with cruise collections left and right and I am starting to notice that cruise is moving in a direction that is far more practical and thus more relevant. Over the next few days I will be highlighting some of my favorites. This is the beginning of the process that starts with monitring trends, looking for DIY projects so that I can manage to get a jump on the new trends, and scoping out retailers and for that matter thrift stores to see what I can use.
Alexander Wang's collection is his signature look, but takes a slightly less edgy approach to modern sportswear, he takes staples and makes them must haves. As always the devil is in the details.
PS- love the t-bar ankle strap shoes.
max azria and miley cyrus have reportedly teamed up to do a line for Walmart. It is set to be released in time for back for back to school shopping and the majority of the items will be priced below $20. It's not weird that I can't wait to see what it looks like?? wait don't answer that. I do however love BCBG and if the clothing is even slightly in the direction of BCBG then it's worth taking a look no?
Miley Cyrus leaving the Grove after a show.
I have been a bad bad blogger. And now to add insult to injury I am going to give you a few quick notes about things that I've read, saw, etc. that I want to share with you.
Ashley Tisdale's gorg shoes from the MTV movie awards. These wedges are Paul and Joe Sister "gypsy" wedge boots. Amaaaaazing.
Kim Kardashian proving you do NOT need to be rail thin to don balmain, she does it here with the infamous 2008 zebra jacket.
Topshop's Voodoo Mesh Corded Tunic can help you achieve an Alexander Wang inspired look, similar to the dress Megan Fox wears in Elle's June issue. A lot of people are trashing the copy cat trend, but I can point out at least 10 dresses over the years that have inspired the Wang version so...
Finally this Victorian mini skirt from forever 21 is fab and it's only $24.

With much trepidation I tuned in last night to Bravo's new series The Fashion Show featuring Isaac Mizrahi and Kelly Rowland. The marriage of famed designer turned Target diffusion line purveyor and R&B songstress was one I doubted would make for captivating TV much less actual substance but my doubts quickly turned to delight. The chemistry between Kelly and Isaac was clear and it had the feel of spending an hour with your best girlfriend and gay husband, which inevitably leads to a good time. Granted the aesthetics of the show were almost identical to that of Project Runway save the triangle runway but our hosts for the evening were the element that really differentiates this series from it's predecessor.
The first challenge was to transform a black t-shirt into a LBD. The judge, Laura Brown from Harper's Bazaar was just blunt enough to pique my attention telling contestants such as Reco that the stripper who wore his dress would certainly make lots of tips and telling Johnny his one shoulder pad ensemble was a built-in airbag; foreshadowing the tenor of the panel for the elimination challenge.
Johnny, Merlin and Keith were chosen as head designers and we charged into the fashion gauntlet, team challenge! The group was tasked with creating a cohesive collection that featured one "must-have" item. Frankly I think Merlin's group Team Bolero and Keith's group Team Bandage Dress mistook "must-have" for "staple" but I digress. Johnny's group Team Harem Pants was more on the mark but the designs smacked of Alexander Wang's influence. In the end, Merlin's Team Bolero won the challenge with James Paul taking the individual grand prize and Merlin playing a gracious runner-up. Jonny, the sacrificial men's wear designer went home for creating a halter and bandage skirt combo befitting Mariah Carey, enough said.
The draw of The Fashion Show is going to be the snarky catwalk judging sessions within which judge Fren Mallis delivers biting commentary. Feedback referring to designs as bargain basement and questioning whether designers should be in the biz before they've even experienced the turn down service at Le Parker Meridian is just brutal. As we all know the dreaded elimination is the "money shot" of any reality show and this is where The Fashion Show lost me a little with catchphrases such as "hanging by a thread", "sold", and "we're not buying it". I really wanted something that conveyed more pithy arrogance. This is high fashion isn't it?

i haven't posted about lauren conrad and audrina patridge in a while so just indulge me ok? Lauren wore her trademark louboutins, look like declics to me and a strikingly short valentino red dress to the affair. I think she looks good here but I'm not sure it was a great dress for a wedding, seems like a this is no big deal to me outfit. she also carried a very casual chanel medallion tote. I'm not sure what Audrina was wearing but I thought I would through her in for good measure. I think she has been looking fantastic lately. ok, so there, I'm done.

so if you've been following my blog you know that I am pushing the whole veil trend. I think this is the next big thing, or at least i want it to be. drew barrymore recently wore a veiled headpiece at the premiere of gray gardens and costume dept has the veiled hoodie. well chanel's 5145 glasses are yet another step in that direction. i die, die die! they are priced at $845, can't even tell you how many weeks of unemployment that is, but a girl can dream.

a few shots from my trip to bebe, ok I know, I was downtown anyway and I had not been for a while so I popped in. I wanted to check out their gucci iman knockoffs er um look alikes and ended up trying on a few things and taking a few pics. the distressed destroyed denim jeans were great color wise but the ripped part was too contrived in my opinion.
I tried on the studded top, they have a dress like it too, it's called the trapunto. it loosely reminded me of Givenchy s/s 2009 so i gave it a whirl. I wish I would've have saved a better pic but you get the idea. I would wear a tank under to lo-fi it a bit.

I also tried on their bleached leggings /jeans. they reminded me of the C.R.A.F.T nervous breakdown jeans.

I walked out with nothing, which is great because I saved my money.
so i finally got my shot at this collection today. met up with thesassypeach and fashionmefabulous at sbux and jumped in the queue on Michigan Ave. It was supposed to be a warm day and it was eventually but not at 8am. Chicago Tribune was on hand to document the event but I think everyone was surprised there was no long line (recession ??). I think they would have done better to bring it out at lunch hour, surely it would have created more buzz and more of a scene but luckily I am blessed/cursed to have plenty of time available due to not working. I met a fellow tpf'er and there was a sweet grandma on the line that waited in the cold to pick up the signature / campaign print dress for her grandaughter (sweet).
Things went quickly, I made straight away for the belts and picked up the blue and pink (score). They has tons of peacock cardigans and the shorter print dress, the peacock dress etc. I was not aware they would not have the sequin dress, the pink bubble dress or the navy suit, but I guess it is for the best or I would have spent too much. I forgot to ask thesassypeach and fashionmefabulous if they mind my posting their pics, after I ask I may update.
GO VISIT THEIR BLOGS, honestly they are soo much better than mine. these girls are going to be stars!
So, since h&m dissapointed on the dress side of things I decided to wander down to forever 21 to see what I could pair my lovely belts with to achieve a similar look, photos below, yes I am that cheap, and frankly h&m didn't leave me with much of a choice. I tried a dress, a romper and a harem jumper. Dressing room pics below. How did I do?
